you could always do the poor mans pi swap until you could afford heads. Buy the pi intake swap and pi cams.

Default This is what you should do

I have a 1998 GT auto. My main mods are stage 2 heads, stage 2 cams,Pi intake, JBA headers w/ full exhuast, and 410s. And then a bunch of small stuff and bolt ons.

The mistake I made was doing a bunch of smaller mods, headlights, springs, CAI....etc....Before actually considering the swap. So If I had to do it all over again i would forget about all the lil mods except for exhuast. The first mod would be a o/r midpipe(cheap) and w/e catback you want. You need to do research on the type of sound you want. I also reccomend that you keep the stock midpipe for emissions...and other reasons.

Now after that, those too mods they wont gain a whole lot of power but they will put a smile on your face when you let her rip. The sound will make you content while your saving up for a PI swap. These two mods are also relatively cheap.

Then do research on the PI swap and start shopping for a good deal. You can try craiglist and ebay!

Im done typing but here are links for info on the PI swap.

this link will give you an idea on the parts:

this link will make you overall knoledgable on the whole ordeal:

Hope that helped
Mike

A 4v swap can easily be done for under $1K, which would be the biggest bang for the buck. This will yield about 70hp. There are plenty of people who have done this. There is no cheaper way to pick up that much power except maybe nitrous. If you're serious about building this car, I would save youre $1K a few times until you can swap in a forged 4v. MMR sells the shortblock for $2250 + 4v swap $1K + odds and ends $500 = $4K. You will then have an engine that you can take in almost any direction, super charger, turbo, nitrous. Remember, you don't want to build a 10yr old car backwards. Create a good foundation and go from there. Patience is priceless. That said, if you do want to get something immediate that will carry over and be a good mod whichever direction you go, get some 4.10 gears. The gear will wake up the car significantly and your lok-trac (posi-trac) probably needs rebuilt anyway. 4.10 is the cheapest steapest you can go. 4.30 and 4.56 are great, but they're a more expensive and you have to buy a speedcal. Good luck, keep us posted.
