I thought the gauge wasn't so linear when I was trying to pay attention to my gas millage. The first 1/4 tank would be 2x the last 1/4 tank or something like that. I could close in on 200 miles for the first half tank and it would seem like an extra 80 miles and I was damn near on the E. As long as it is showing that I have gas I don't worry too much, I know my car isn't for the mpg, and really I just use it for the "do I get gas now or wait til after work"
I get terrible MPG. Everytime I fill up, the pump clicks no higher than 13 gallons. Once I filled up drove around for a bit then went back and still clicked at 13 gallons.
When the tank is full, the fuel level float is maxed out while gas is even above the float. So you have to burn a decent amount of fuel before it reaches the point of affecting the float.

When I first bought my car, it was like 20 degrees outside, so I filled up while the car was running. Got back in and took off and noticed I was still on Empty!!!!!! Turned the key off and back on, and it was back up to FULL. My buddy's Mach 1 does the same thing though, so I guess it's normal for these cars.
