I have run 87 in my 04 GT since new, even with a timing adjuster, and have had no problems whatsoever.93 is not "cleaner"or more powerfull,it just resists detonation better than 87.It WILL leave more deposits on valves and injectors when driven in stop and go service because of the extra anti knock additives.

after the several long convos about which fuel to use....and how our cars are made for 87..use 87... i just talked to one of my friends who works for a ford dealership, and sed after workign on so many cars and seeing what 87 does to engines he hasnt run it in his vehicles since. He says its a real dirty fuel and it just kills engines... causes knockings and tickings and all sorts of stuff. So becuz of this im running 89 + and i suggest sum of u serious owners should think of making the switch as well. My basic description of looking at the internals of an engine on 87... is like looking at the lung of a smoker.
How is 87 any more "dirty" than any other gas? The only difference should be the octane rating. If your buying dirty gas, your gas stations really suck.

Not to mention it goes thru a filter anyway, so how is it supposed to getin the engine?

agreed.

Go look at "howthingswork.com" and check out the science behind octane ratings. It has nothing to do with the "cleanliness" of the fuel. The octane rating represents the fuel's resistance to combustion.

Fantastic suggestion, MikeHawke. I live off that site on my lunch breaks, it helps the thirst for knowledge!

[&:] Well it's designed to run on 87. if it pings or knocks then you should use a higher grade, otherwise you're just wasting money if your car feels fine running on the designated octane rating.
Well said!!!

Use the lowest octane you can...if it ping or detonates go up a grade or two till it stops. This is on all cars!! I dunno why peeps don't get it......?

I am not even going to say anything.....

Well just that every engine you open or work on looks different. it depends on how it was used, how it was driven, and how well it has been taken care of. I can tell you it is going to rain..... Do you belive me?

As far as octane goes, run what doesn't ping. We have lost a member or two over this topic. Dan and I went on for 2 or 3 pages with this guy.

Just run what doesn't ping.

I run mid-grade ethanol @ 89 - 90 octane. It's actually just as cheap as regular here in the midwest...
