Good info, thanks. I'm pretty sure it's not leaning out up high, I tend to agree that if anything it's getting richer, judging by the smell and plug condition. I am running the 24lb injectors that came with my donor engine, MAF also from donor engine. Any chance I chip or handheld tuner would get me close to where I need to be?

Any thoughts on what kind of power I might expect?

I'm planning to run 3.73's, anything shorter would be too much for my 38mi commute.

Well think about it this way... the computer is calibrated for 19lbs injectors if you're running 24lbs it's pumping just that much more fuel because the EEC is calibrated for 19lbs injectors.

Are you still running your stock MAF or did you upgrade to the cobra 80mm?

Whenever I get off my *** and go out to the garage and finish putting it back together. It doesn't really matter when I do it since I can't get it tuned till spring anyway. There's no way I could risk the car by taking it out on the street during the winter. I even took regular insurance off it.

Running the Cobra MAF. What about custom chip or handheld tuner options? Or, would it be worth obtaining a stock Cobra ECU? I tried this once, but the used ECU I recieved wouldn't run the car, it would start for maybe a second and die, apparently the later Cobra ecu's are different than earlier units. Does the GT ecu have the capability of being properly tuned for this application? I am very ignorant on this topic.

Any idea of power potential?

It wouldn't start because of the Passive Anti Theft System (PATS). Luckily you have a 98 and the pats can be turned off through a tuner. BUT, the GT ECU is just as good if you delete the IMRC's. YOu can run on a stock tune with no issues. Although get a tune when you can to get the full potential. There's also no point in changing the MAF. Use the GT MAF, Injectors and ECU and you'll be able to drive it today.

Handhelds are a comfort food that does nothing except give you the illusion of control. Either spend the money and get Sniper system or SCT (I'm talking about laptop tuning) or find the a Tuner in your area and have them strap it down on a dyno. Being that you're a newbie to all of this, I'd suggest having someone else do till you've learned a lot more.

A stock 4v is going to be in the 270rwhp range. If you build it it's only limited to your pocket book.

It actually would start, just wouldn't run for more than a second. The PATS system runs through the insturment cluster, not the ECU if I'm not mistaken. I've run the car on a lincoln MKVIII ECU with no issues except the tach doesn't work and the O/D off light comes on because it thinks it's in automatic. I've been driving the car for months now on the stock GT ECU, Cobra MAF and 24lb injectors, just underpowered. As written earlier, IMRC's have been deleted. The only part I'm new to is the ECU tuning, just trying to find out what it takes to get that working as it should for this motor.
