Considering getting a 96-98 cobra have questions
I am looking at SN95 cobras right now, and I am trying to decide which to get. Was thinking about getting a 94-95 but they are super rare and the 4 valve is quite a bit more powerful. Is there any common problems with the 4 valve? It seems like when looking in the auto trader a lot of them have new motors at not very high of mileage. Also I have heard stories about them dropping valves and having bad oiling. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated, thanks.

A well cared for 96-98 cobra doesn't have any particular engine flaws, but a young punk can tear up anything. The things to look for on this car are problems with the tranny. The T45 doesn't hold up too well and they love to eat the sychros. The usual first signs of a T45 with problems is a grind on a high rpm (6500+) shift from 1st to 2nd. You can also put it in fourth and just give it a little bump without touching the clutch, if it pops out super easy, that's another sign of a needy T45. The electric seats in all mustangs are prone to failure. The 96-97's have better leather, better carpet, stock strut tower brace, and few other minute differences. The 98 have cooler stock wheels, I wish they would've been on mine when I bought it. I think the fuel systems might be different too, but not sure. Good luck on finding a good one. A good rule of thumb is to never buy a car from anyone under the age of 30.
