Yes pinging and knocking ar ethe same, use a good fule system cleaner like the lucas mine did the same thing in the heat till I ran it through the system. also are you getting you gas at the same place every time I have a 7-11 here that my car pings if I get the 87 but it does not do it if I go to Hess or Chevron try that see if it helps.
