Exclamation 2001 GT Steering shaft hitting header!

Just got done installing my new DSS racing super mod motor, patriot stage 2 heads, vt stage 2 blower cams, pypes stainless long tube headers, polyurethane mounts, and some other misc. things. The problem is the steering shaft is hitting/rubbing on the driver side header making it difficult to steer. The wheel turns, but not like it should. Does anyone have any similar experience or have any fixes for it? I looked at a flaming river steering shaft but I'm not too enthusiastic about dropping another $300 after spending all that money on everything else. Any help is appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had this Same problem happen with my BBK headers. the Factory for steering shaft is a collapsible design which means that with some persuasion you can lengthen or shorten it.

I made mine about 1/2" longer than it was before and it moved itself out of the way.

I'm sure there is someone who is going to come in here and tell me 100 reason why what was bad, but it did work for me.

EDIT: also mark the factory length by making a line where the two tubes overlap, just in case.
