Default Need a new engine... and advise

I need a new engine for my GT. Should I get a used 4.6 if money is a problem? I have been looking on Ebay and http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-00...Q5fAccessories is an example of engines I could pickup on Ebay. What should I be concerned about when buying a used engine like this and would it even be a good idea at all to pick an engine like this up?

Also if I do pickup a used engine what should I do to it following the install?

before i would spend 1500.00 on a used engine i would look into a forged shortblock and swap the top end from your engine to the new bottom end.

Buying a used engine is a crap shoot!
If you can get one from a car that's been wrecked recently you might do alright. You don't say how bad you need an engine. If this is your daily driver and it has to be available now,you might be in a bind.
If you need the new engine because the old one is dying, you have more options.

Sorry should have specified why i need an engine. I have a knocking rod, I wish I could just buy a better performance short block and my car would run.

My mechanical knowledge is limited but I have time and can be patient to figure out everything I should do to my engine while its out of the car (if i buy a used 4.6).

Whats up with these engines?

why spend 1800.00 when you can have a forged short block for $ 400.00 more??? since you have a rod knock the top end of your engine is fine and you can reuse the heads and what ever else you would need.

This man speaks gospel!!!

Look for a cobra engine on ebay or craigslist. They're out there! That would be the way to go. Forget about another GT V8. Waste of time in your situation.
