Default 97 GT Speedo/Odometer Trouble---Any Suggestions?

My wife recently purchased a 97 GT with the following issues- the speedo is 10 miles off meaning it reads 60 mph, and you are traveling 50 mph. Also, the odometer is not working at all. This car is original with 140,000 on the non-working odometer with the only upgrades being a BBK Intake, strut tower brace, and a shift kit in the transmission. I am not sure if there is a possibility that it could be the speed sensor, or if we need to find a replacement gauge. The tire size on the car is 245/45/zr17. I believe that is the size from the factory, but also unsure about that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info - I found the gear kit. Do you have any suggestions for the speedo being off?
