Default Gear question.

I hope this is not a dumb question. I honestly do not know. I have searched and have not found answers. What is the difference in gear sizes as far as what they do and how they affect the engine RPM's at various speeds? (ie 3.73, 4.10, etc?) I would like to change mine, but I do drive it on the highway, and do not want to have it at screaming down the highway. What is the stock gear size? Thanks in advance for your help!

First what mods do you have? I just change my gear set from 3.73 to 4.10's and couldn't be more happier. A word of advice and you will here this alot. Don't fear the gear!!!!!! I am so pissed that I had to redo a mod but on the other hand it was well worth it. 410's all day long man!

Sorry I forgot the mods. I have a CAI (worthless) and the old style SCT, which I do not always use. My car is an automatic with a shift kit in it. More than not I leave the car un tuned. What will the 4.10 do versus the 3.73?

Oh man this is gonna be easy. Auto = 410's!!!!!!!!!! I promise you 99% of the guys on here will tell you since your car is a auto you need to go with 410's..... 410's seem to really help out the auto GT's alot compared to 3.73's. My car is not a DD anymore and when I had the 373's it really didn't give me that extra uumph. I promise you 410's will.

Where will the RPM's be driving on the highway, say 70mph? That is my concern. I dont want it running in the "honda" RPM range.

Also, How will the gears affect the performance? What does changing them do? Sorry, I have no experience with gears at all.

Man it's not that bad. All of guages are off right now (installed white face guages) but it's not that much more than when I had the 3.73's. If you get the 373's especailly being auto you're gonna be pissed, I promise you...

A good set of gears and a progressive stall can net you at least a .3-.5 sec diff in the quater and beleive me that's alot. Imagine going from a 14.5 to a 14.0, IMO a big diff.

yea they make you accelrate faster because they make the engine turn more RPMS and technicly they increase your top speed since they put you in your power band and you can pull better but the stock ones are 3.27 and i've rode in a 3.73 car and they do pull harder than my car but not like what i expected. your RPMs will be below 2500 for sure. prob right around 2400 i tihnk. with 3.73's my friends are at 2200 so prob 2300 or so.
