99% chance its the crossover or t-stat housing.. Dont look into aftermarket intakes, stick with a new PI unit. They are relatively in-expensive as well...

yea those are pretty inexpensive, do they hold up well though, being that they're still plastic? what do i have to have xtra to install one of these intakes? as far as my heads go?

They hold up great man, that intake is the same PI replacement "new style" intake from Ford. You wont need anything extra, it will bolt right up to 99-04 2vs no problems. I'd look into an intake gasket kit, but thats just for piece of mind, the original gaskets are "re-usable" I'd also look into new spark plugs. And when you replace the intake, make sure you pull all 8 plugs, shut the fuel off, and crank the engine over a few times and clean out the cylinders of coolant before you install the new intake. A lot of people skip this step and its easy to bend rods

Thats called heat soak.

The aftermarket intakes are either junk, or high rpm/high flow based. Which does nothing to a stock head/cam 2V car....except be expensive and look shiney
