Engine Swap

Engine Swap
Hey Guys,
I know this is the V8 forum section, but I figured since I plan on swapping to a V8 this would be a viable section to post my question. I have a V6 right now and want to swap it out for a V8; I'm looking into what will fit in my car but some ideas now are the 4.6L GT engine or a crate engine and my decision will be based off what the price difference will be.
What all is involved in swapping an engine besides the obvious, that being the engine swap. Rear end work, tranny work, on-board computer work, etc. is what I'm asking about.
I also realize that it would be more cost-effective to buy a new car, but my car is special to me as I'm sure most of you can relate to.
Thanks for the help

Instead of doing a 4.6L drop, it might be cheaper going 5.4L. Both engine drop right in w/o any modifications. The only thing you might have a slight problem, with both engines, are that your wiring harness might not reach but you just have to extend it slightly. You also might want to consider how much power do you want. If you want over 450 RWHP might as well build your motor while its out. Your rear end will hold but remember you have a 7.5 and GT's have 8.8. Transmission is the same.

5.4 will work but last time I read about the swap people needed custom headers and the intake manifolds were crap.
Now you can buy the hps hardballr intake but its like 700 dollars
You should look into it more before you make a decision

The 5.4 swap is for veteran swappers with fabricating experience, which you aren't since you're asking about this swap. I would go with a 96-98 Cobra engine. The best way would be to find one cheap that needs a rebuild since it's worth the money to forge it while it's out. My other suggestion would be to shove an 03-04 engine under there. MMR ( www.modularmustangracing.com ) sells long blocks at very reasonable prices. The esiest would be to have a donor car that way you have all of the odds and ends. Also, it's nice to have a model to show you how it fits. Good luck!

Junk yard. F150 trucks. People have bought their engines for 80 dollars. The only reason why you would need custom piping is when you want to do long tubes. If you dont want LT then you can get shorties that WILL fit with out any modifications. As Justin said yes the new hardball intake is what you want. Most people are very satisfied with their swap.
