+1 the stock 1600 stall sucks.

You poop in it at public places...such as schools, or sports stadiums.

...Or in a car

When you rev your car to let's say, 2000 RPM when your launching, the car will go to 1600 RPM and start rising. When your upgrade the stall to lets say, 3200, your can rev your car to a higher point(as long as you still get traction obviously) and start climbing from 3200 RPM. Meaning a faster start.

The stock stall is actually about 2500...its actually rated at 2340 to 2740.

It will only footbrake to about 1600.

With a 3200 stall it will footbrake higher but will jump to 3200 when you floor it and leave the line a lot harder along with keeping the rpms up between shifts.

Stall is basically how loose your converter is

With a stock stall you cant leave the line hard and your rpms act almost like a manual car.

With a high stall you will notice your rpms are always a bit higher and when you go WOT your rpms will jump up into the powerband immediately.

I have about a weeks worth of driving mine, let me tell you something about the stick shift. Fun factor= HELL YEAH. its a blast on the open road snapping thru the gears like SpeedRacer. Downshifting before the hairpin turns, upshifting out of the corners, burning rubber in second gear. Wow is it fun.
Now for the bad news, in reality how often do you get to do that. For me its actually a pita. I do alot more traffic driving than I thought I did. My part time job is HomeHealth after my real job, so Im on the road from 3pm to 6pm, prime rushhour traffic times. While the stick is fun to drive, for me it would have been more practical if I got an automatic..
What kind of day to day driving are you doing ( I realize that this is a hotrod forum, but if this is a daily driver than you have to look at practicality). Also whats your funding situation. which way would be cheaper to go.
If all else fails get the tranny rebuilt with a good shift kit that gives firm shifts, and a manual valve body so you can control the shift points. You then would have the best of both worlds

Pretty much just what everyone else is saying. Either way you are going to have to replace your transmission so as long as you build it up a little so it wont break again and get it to your liking then in the end it wont matter much.

I'd stick with the automatic, especially if you drag race much. Its going to be a pita to do a swap anyway.
