I'm impressed!
Do you keep the tranny in 2nd gear around town, to cut down on the shifts? I'm interested because I have an Auto(with enough mods to sink the Titanic) and would like to keep this car until the day I die.
And thats a great point, a lot of things that go wrong, aren't the cars fault. It's the users.
Ex. my fuel pump crapped out at 88,000....And I would constantly let the fuel tank get to Empty...which overheats the fuel pump, and quickly clogs the filter.

i never let it get to the red line for the gas for that very reason

The comments I am getting a pretty much what I expected. Seems to be a lot of hit and miss on quality. I will see whats out there, I have always wanted the V8 mustang but lately I have been getting tempted by the 99-05 celica GT.. 35-40mpgs sure does sound good.. But you can beat the roar of the GT's V8... ahhh the choices
Yeah, I love the looks of the 7th Generation Celicas. Nice sleek lines. But it's by NO means fast. 1999-2004 Mustang GT will beat on a Celica(and the newest ones, the Scion Tc) allllllll day long. It really depends on what your looking for: do you want a American V8 that can haul ***, or a Japanese 4 banger that gets good gas mileage?

I would recommend the '02-'04s. Like Strider said, if you find an '01 that you like, check to see which '01 you're getting. I didn't know about the midyear changes until my clutch went out and I had to replace it. Whoever put my old clutch on put the wrong size on it, 11" instead of 10.5", and it just shredded into 100s of pieces. I have an early '01 with the T45 tranny. I believe a guideline to go by is those manufactured in January 2001 and later have the newer changes. Also, I have to use the 96-01 Steeda Underdrives instead of the 01-04. The older '01s have a Windsor block and the newer ones have a Romeo block. I had called Ford to see if they could look up which block I had by VIN but they didn't know s**t. He's like, all it says it that it's a 4.6L 2V SOHC. I'm like really? I didn't know my car had a 4.6L V8 in it...... -__- The main difference between the 2 blocks is the way the valve cover is bolted to the cylinder heads. So I've had to make sure I'm getting the right heads for my block because I'm getting those put on soon.
Soooo... Just keep things simple, go with 02-04 and you won't have any discrepancies. The pricing shouldn't be much higher and you'll end up with lower miles and newer car.

i would try to stick to the latest model you can afford i.e. 03-04. . . the tr3650 has some synchro problems in cold weather but supposedly 04 had it resolved from the factory. I've had my 03 gt for 1.5 years with hard driving and just did ordinary maintenance.
as for mods on a car, my car came with a plenum, throttle body, gears, and catback. . . didnt shy me away from it one bit. i'd say most gt's were driven hard once in their lifetime. . .to me, a modded car usually translates into a more well kept car because the people like us usually keep them immaculate.
if you take care of your mustang it will take care of you. . . imho

like everyone is saying, go for 02-04...most of the wrinkles were ironed out by then. my 03 gt has 40k on it and no problems at all. my 99 gt had 96k on it and i had no problems at all. just make sure you inspect the car good, check for all the vitals lol because u can get stuck with a lemon. my buddy's 03 gt is a complete bone..the tranny grinds and barely goes into gear and the car is slow as sh**. and it only has 36k on it so look out. however i've driven my buddy's bullitt and my other friends 03 gt and both of them run great and have no problems. it's all in how it was taken care of
