Angry Just upgraded to cobra calipers and rotors...

I just upgraded to cobra calipers and rotors on my 1996 gt and im not getting a firm pedal like i used too. I have to push about half way down on the pedal to start feeling any serious braking power. i figured this just isnt right and took it to Brake Specialist and they bleed out the system after i already had once and the pedal still has the same feel, not firm. They couldnt find out what the deal was either :/ So even the professionals couldnt even figure this out.

Any idea's what would be wrong???

my guess would be that you have air coming in from somewhere. had the same problem with my cousins altima. check your brake connections, bleeder screws, and resovior cap.

Is the bleed screw facing up?? Did you reuse the old crush washers, or did you use brand new ones??

Also, how many miles are on your car?? Only ask because chances are your Master Cylinder could be worn, but adding more effort to it could've maybe took out a seal on the plunger..

i also think it's your M/C, if you managed to get all the air out it could indeed be a bad seal, but i would try bleeding it again because it took me 45 minutes to get ALL the air out of mine

+1, it did take me a while to get all of the bubbles out, even after I accidentally put the bleed screw on the bottom..

I also found it easier to bleed brakes on a Non-Hydromatic setup, not sure why, but that could also be why it takes a while to get all of the air out..

Usually though, if they were bulging that much, I'd think they be collapsing just as badly, which would lock up the brakes..

amoosenamedhank: What was leaking exactly on the resevoir?? Was it the res. itself, or the seal?? I'd think you'd be able to see bubbles in the MC, unless the fluid was really dark..

I had the same problem when I installed the Wilwoods. I had to bench bleed the MC. It takes a while to get all the air out of the MC.
