OK so to a mod motor noob are there any differences between the 4 valve in a mach 1 and the one in a cobra other than the S/C and maybe injectors and Fuel management??

i assume your are talkin about an 03/04 cobra since you mentioned a s/c. The 03/04 cobras have forged pistons and rods

That would be correct.

So forged pistons is it?? I am under the impression all rods are forged...at least thats the case in push rod engines. Are the cranks forged also?? Are the blocks iron or aluminum

i know earlier cobras had aluminum blocks idk about the termis. The only rods in modular motors that are forged come in the 03/04 cobras. I believe a 5 speed mach 1 crank is forged but not the auto. The cobra crank is forged.

so would it be way off to say a 4v 5 speed mach 1 engine could handle 750-850 at the rear wheels only changing to forged pistons??

you would need forged rods in the mach motor as well

+ 1 to both of jvogs post, in the mod motors, rods are the first thing to go, also the mach thing is correct. Ok the Mach 1 shares heads with the 03/04 cobra, but shares an intake manifold with the 99/01 cobra. As tws said the 03/04cobra block is iron while the machs, aluminum. The 03/04 is forged the machs is not, 450whp is about the limits of the stock mach1 pistons/rods (really rods) and some people would call you crazy for going that far, usually right under 400whp seems to be a "safe number" on stock internals.

Hope i helped.
