ok ill start with when i bought my car 2 years ago with 40,000 mile since my first oil change in it ive used pennzoil platinum full synthetic 5W-20 right now its at 68,XXX miles. when the oil comes out it dosent look any diffrent except its used, but under the oil cap i have had a tan "milky" build up happining. ive never cleaned it out so keep in mind this is 2 years (about 8 or 9 oil changes) worth of build up and what i scrapped out of the oil filler neck .



ive heard that full synthetic oil will do this but i just wanted to hear thoughts from other people.


on an diffrent note ive watched my coolant level over the last year or so and ive noticed that after sitting overnight the level is below the refill mark but after its warm the level goes up to full again..... my lincoln is the oppisite way.... any thoughts??

the film on the oil cap is normal for a vehicle that is driven short distances in cold weather. the engine never fully warms up and condensation will form on the upper end of the engine. sometimes the ammount of sludge will be greater if the pcv valve isnt functioning properly. the coolant level you described is normal. as coolant warms it expands creating a higher level. as it cools it contracts creating a lower level.
