Metal forgings?
I've been looking at different internals kits. I noticed that one company offered rods with a 4340 forge, and another offered a 5130 forging. How do I know which is stronger? Does anyone know where I could find it? I looked on google and couldn't find anything. I may end up going with billet in the end anyways, but I just want to know for future reference.
Thanks a lot guys! |
RE: Metal forgings?
Billet=no street car
|
RE: Metal forgings?
explain why
|
RE: Metal forgings?
yeah I would also like an explanation (im not trying to disregard your comment, cuz i know that you know your ****). But VT said I would need billet for anythign over 800 hp. And i've seen street cars with more than that..well not seen but heard of.
I was thinkin bout upgrading to billet just for my mind's well being. But I would really like to know the differences between the types of metals available to a strictly forged motor. |
RE: Metal forgings?
First of all, I guess I need to know what your definition of a "street car" is?
|
RE: Metal forgings?
well, a car that can be driven on pump gas and is street legal.
by the way, do you kno how much porting heads is? and how much a shop usually charges to bore the block for large pistons (302 kit)? |
RE: Metal forgings?
IT's just me....but, I am not that impressed with the stroker kits. As far as head work, depends on where you go. I had VT build my complete engine, so I am unsure about seperate work costs. Also, you said in you post concerning street car, as pump gas. Do you drive it every day? Do you drive it in traffic, do you want all your accessories?

RE: Metal forgings?
answer his ****in question. your real good about not doing that
|
RE: Metal forgings?
Billet steel internals are fine, but billet aluminum internals on a street car are no bueno.
|
RE: Metal forgings?
so what would billet aluminum internals go on?
