Default Release Fuel Pressure in 99 4.6?!?!

Ok, I have no Chiltons on ths car that I just bought, I am swapping intakes on it, and now need to release the fuel pressure. I know where its at, (passenger side rear of motor) How do I acutally release it, I know this is probably a stupid question, that just needs a quick response, but I don't want to mess anything up. Thanks in advance for your help!?!?!?!?!

Ive released the pressure several times on my car. Which ever port of release you choose, just throw a towel over it to avoid getting sprayed. It isnt much gas at all that will come out.

The way I used to do it on my GT is on the front passanger fuel rail there is a valve stem. I pressed it in till the gas stopped coming out and then continued on with what ever I was doing.

Thank you,
Yeah I saw that on the fron to the fuel rail. I'll try it when I get home tonight. Plastic manifold blew out, so forced me to get a new manifold..!!!

I've never done this on my Stang, but on other vehicles I just unplugged the pump, and started the car... but what jdaniel said works fine too...

Yeah if you pop your trunk, move the carpet board away like you are trying to access your tail light from the inside (driver side). There should be an inertia switch for your fuel pump (little black box with a red button). Unplug it (this disables the fuel pump), then start your car and let run for a few minutes until car dies (fuel pressure goes away). When restoring it, plug it back in and make sure that red button hasn't popped out if it does just push it back in.

If you do that the lines are still presserized! You need to release the pressure from the front drivers side pressure valve. It has a cap on it and it looks like a valve stem. Just do what JDanial said and you will be cool!!

If you disable the fuel pump, the fuel lines are pressurized, you have just run out of fuel. Use the valve stem trick, that releases pressure.

How can you be out of fuel AND the lines still be pressurized? The fuel pump is what pressurizes the line. If you disconnect and start the car you are burning off the fuel left in the lines until there isn't enough pressure left to "push" fuel into the rails/injectors/etc...

Unplugging your fuel pump and starting the car WILL relieve fuel line pressure, but releasing with a rag on the schrader valve will do the same thing, you just get fuel on a rag... no big deal either way...
