your gonna need threads in the shaft to get a press on pulley on the pump so you gotta do what you gotta do. there should be no reason the shaft doesn't have threads though as most pumps are just reman factory pumps.

i would take that pump back to where you got it, and ask for an exchange for a different manufactured one.

yeah it should have threads. You have a good idea though just find the correct thread size/pitch on the tool you have and run a tap through the P/S shaft and make your threads.

But don't get frustrated and just hammer the pulley on.

Are you quite certain it is not threaded? On the OEM pump the thread is an M8 x 1.5 and is recessed 1/2" or so in the shaft's end bore. It looks unthreaded but if you use a probe you can feel the threads.

If it is actually not threaded then bring it back to where you got it because there is no way to properly mount the pulley--and as others have said, do NOT bang it on as doing so will likely foul up the pump's bearings and/or other internals...

and also if you try and tap the inside of the shaft, how are you gonna hold the shaft still. if you use vice grips i can almost guarantee you will never get that pulley back on and will just end up snapping every bolt from an install kit you can find.
