air filter mesh screen
#11
I took my screen out four years ago and have no issues. I got that piece of advice on this forum. This screen has a thickness of about 1.5 mm. Physically, it is not large enough to "straighten out" airflow. Additionally, the airflow on a stock air box IS straight prior to the screen for all intents and purposes.
Suddenly, I am remembering why I stopped coming back to this forum.

I would strongly recommend that you buy and read Greg's book, it is pretty much the definitive work for modern engine tuning.

I have a 96 GT and I bought the whole K&N intake and took the screen out and she runs fine. I have never had a problem. so maybe the only reason people have problems with take the screen out is when you still use the stock intake...

First of all, assuming you have the OEM intake, you currently have a CAI--and a pretty good one at that. Most aftermarket CAIs are 99.44% eyewash, the exception being predominately the JLT offerings which like the OEM intake are engineered as more than just a piece of tubing.
As to the screen, removing it will not make any measurable difference in power and may affect drivability--take it out and see what happens, it's not a big deal to put it back in.

im sure it varies on which intake you buy. the K&N intake tells you to take out the screen. and leave it out so idk.
also if you are going to get a new intake i would go with the ram air design keeping your filter out of your fender. after talking to a lot of people about which was better, they all agreed on the ram air intake because by putting the filter in the fender like most cai its more susceptible to moisture which as im sure you know is bad for your engine.
