new mustang and it wont start
so i got an 2001 gt from my cousin and it will not start.it will crank and crank, but i dont smell fuel. i have a metal key, not the factory ford one with the alarm thing on it. i have heard that the car will not start without the key that has a chip in it. is this true? i have tried to push the fuel pump reset switch, but it seems to be broken. also the car has not been started in about 3 or 4 months. what can i/ should i do?

Well i dont know much about the keys with chips, but if the fuel pump reset appears to be broken then maybe thats your problem? Spray some carb cleaner in the throttle body and see if it will start up for a second or so.

you are going to have to go to ford and get 2 keys with the chip in them and have them programed to the car so that it will start your looking at about $75 give or take $. It will take them about 15 mins to do it. P.S. you will have to have a minimum of 2 keys probably

so since it has pats or whatever its called, i will have to have it towed to a ford dealership and have them make me a key, a key fob and have them program it....ugh. thank you mustangman03

did you tap the fuel shutoff with a wrench or something to trigger it? then push it in? you cant just push it, it wont do anything unless its triggered...
either way, you need the right keys... i have a metal key for just my door incase i ever lock my keys in the car, but thats it...i was told 79 programming fee and thats a one time fee... so 79 plus the cost of the actual keys... i think it came to 140 for 1 key, so i imagine somwhere between 150-200 for keys all said and done
