Default Untuned with Long Tubes...

My buddy has a set of bbk ceramic long tubes and we were origanlly going to throw them on and go get it tuned but it seems a local speed shop is having a dyno day in may/june. How ****ty will the car run untuned with longtubes? Will it be drivable at all? Im guessing its gonna run lean and like a dog from low rpm just wondering your guys opinions/suggestions.

It'll be fine, you'll just have a light on. You may notice idle hang from decay rate being confused by the better flow but it's totally drivable and you can beat on it all you like without fear. Get it tuned when you can though, or you wont see the full gains you should have.

I will be installing BBK longtubes in the next few days, and i've been told (by a reputable Mustang performance shop) that it is recommended (but not necessary) to have it tuned.

I will have it tuned though because i run nitrous as well, and i don't think it would be a good idea run a poweradder untuned.

Not having it tuned is like walking into a ***** house and not getting it up.

You're going to at least need a tune or a chip to delay the front 02s. Due to the front 02s on longtubes being located a lot further from the engine than on factory manifolds or shorties, it takes longer for them to heat up and stay heated. You will end up getting codes for slow 02 response and your ride will run like crap. At least this is what was always happening on my longtubes. However mine are ceramic coated inside and out. I had the front 02s delayed and I have not had that problem since.

I have a buddy with a 2003 gt w/full bolt ons and gears, and he said it made a noticable difference when he had it tuned after the longtubes. I think it's a good idea regardless just to have the peace of mind of knowing your car is running at it's best.
