where to hook water temp guage sending unit??

i actually tapped another hole in the aluminum crossover next to the sensor on the passenger side. You have to do it just right because there isn't much material to get threaded. Mine doesn't leak. it probably isn't the best place but i wouldn't trust tapping into another spot that is just plastic.

Where to mount an after market coolant sending unit?
I would remove the original temp sensor, then install a brass pipe fitting with a "T" fitting. You can then re-install the original temp sensor along with the after market coolant sending unit on either side of the "T" fitting. I did this on a Chevy V-6 engine shown in the picture provided here. The brass fittings are just below the intake in the red circled area. I see no reason why you would not be able to fabricate something similar. You just have to make sure you get the right size threaded fittings. I got my fittings from City Mill Hardware. Good luck, Tommy.

i guess if it comes down to using a T will the reading be right. or show cooler. i mean i know it should read about the same due to the coolant al being together. i really like the block idea but does anyone know if it will work on a 96 with engine mounts there

The "T" fitting worked just fine for me. I'm sure it will work for you as well. The best place for any temp sender is off the intake manifold, or in that general location. It makes no difference how many sensors you hook up at the "T" fitting, the reading will be the same as if you had just one sensor. The temperature there will not change by adding an additional sensor. The stock factory gauge and the after market temp gauge I had hooked up gave me the same exact readings. I hooked up the after market temp gauge in the engine compartment so I wouldn't have to keep going into the car to see what the temperature was while working on the engine. Good luck, Tommy.
