Default Tranny and rear end weak points??

My 'Stang has a very strong motor and my limitation at the moment is traction. But as I begin improving traction, that's obviously going to put more stress on all the components that connect the motor to the ground (i.e. tranny and rear end).

My question is, what are the weak points in the tranny and rear axle and what can be done to improve them?

Much of the work on my 'Stang was done by a PO and I don't have all the documentation. I do know it has 3.73 gears and hopefully some upgraded axle shafts.

I see UPR makes a nice looking diff cover/girdle. Is that a worthwhile upgrade? Does the 8.8 have problems with the housing flexing??

What transmission should my '00 GT have? T45? Talking with a drag race buddy, he felt like once I started putting on this power to the ground, the input shaft would be a failure point. The PO said he thought some of the gears in the tranny had been beefed up (he didn't do the work), but again I don't have any documented proof of that. Are there any common upgrades for the tranny? Or is swapping to the T56 the best route?

Thanks,
bigmac

Don't get sticky tires and you wont have a problem, lol. You're on borrowed time if you hook at almost any modified power level.

for a built rear your gonna want to look into a girdle, detroit tru trac or 31 spline trac loc diff with either carbon clutches or 8 clutch pack upgrade, and some 31 spline axles. i just recently ripped my stock t45 to pieces with only 8 lbs. of boost from my holset. im going auto though, your options could be a built t56 or a couple of companys make built t45 and tr3650s (i would go with the tr over the t45 if you go that route). and yes you have a t45.
