Default You'll Never Guess What This Thread is About...

You're right, it's another gear thread hehe

I'm having a set of motive 4.10's installed in my '96, and since i'm having someone pull the rear end apart anyway, i can't help but wonder what else i should look into before my pony goes under the knife, does anyone have a limited slip insert? also, i realize i should have the bearings and shims replaced when they're pulling it all apart (my car's got 67k on it), but can anyone specify exactly what it is that i need? i know i can order them as a set from a few different places, but i hate buying something if i don't have a real understanding of what it is. any other information you guys with gearing experience can toss my way about what i should look into would be great too. money is a real factor, us college kids manage to stay pretty poor, but i want it done right, and, of course, i wanna get the most bang for my buck.

thanks in advance

I got the motive rear end rebuild kit from mustangtuning.com. It comes with all new shims, bearings, gaskets, and whatnot. Basically it gives you all new rear end pieces that all work well together. Its good to have all new pieces when you redo your rear end because the old stuff might not mesh too well with the new gears. Since you got motive gears, a motive rear end rebuild kit will work great. I got mine a few months ago and couldn't be happier, I've had zero problems with it.

Ok what you want to get with the motive gears is the Master bearing kit from mustangtuning or you can get the same thing from brenspeed.com for $79 as opposed to $89. After that you will want to calibrate the speedometer. I just got 4.10's about 1 week ago and I used the speedo 23 tooth gear from the blue oval industries on ebay for about 16$ shipped.

What he said^^^ You should really get the deluxe bearing/shim kit for your new gears. You will also need a speedo calibrator. I have the one from Dallas Mustang that taps into your cig lighter wires and installs underneath the shifter boot

with the speedo gear there is no need for an electronic calibrator

Yeah you cant just had your mechanic and tell him to throw in the gear. My mechanic told me he wouldnt do it unless i had all new seals, bearings, and shims.

If you have not picked up a kit yet give me a call. I have them in stock and I can hook you up. I remember the college days... well some of them.
