ALT light at 4000 rpm
Hey folks, I got a wierd problem and hope someone here can point me in the right direction. My Alt light comes on at 4000 rpm, and stays on until the engine is below that, also the volt gauge drops above 4 grand, hense the light. I dont think this is normal. I had the charging system checked and the autozone guy said that the alt is putting out 60 amps and everything is good. I replaced the dried cracked serpentine belt, no change. the tensioner is tight. Any ideas??????
Thanks

Sounds like your alt. is not keeping up with demand.
You should have approx. 14.7 volt output during anything over a modest idle. Even though it is putting out voltage at Autozone, it is not keeping up with a higher demand of sytem at 4K and above.
How did this person check "amperage" output of the alternator? The only way to do that is put a high demand on it and this is not your average parking lot test.

Sounds like you need a new alternator. Luckily I have one from my 02 GT for sale. Make me an offer. lol </shameless plug>
Seriously, though. This is a sign of a bad alternator. This happened on my Blazer, and I decided to let it go for a few days (I knew better not to, too). Next thing I knew that night I was changing the alternator in the mall parking lot.
