Alway let your car warm up and its not only about oil flow. Metal expands. Your whole motor tightens up at normal operating tempature.

Just like a woman needs forplay before you play - a car need to warm up before you play!

I start my car every morning for work and go back inside and watch tv until the car is completely warmed up. I will not drive the car unless it is at operating temp.

That's great for it. The only way it would be bad is if he left it running all the time with no load.

I can't begin to think how many Hmmv's ive screwed up just letting them run to charge the power inverter so I could watch TV in the motor pool, lol.

The temp. gauge is the coolant temp, right? How long does motor oil need to get warm for high rpm piston-to-cylinderwall sexy time?

212* is what engines are designed for, with a viscosity of 10. At 300* (Track conditions) the viscosity is at 3. The key is to balance the flow vs. viscosity. (flow does not equal pressure).

0w30 lubricates just as well as 5w or 10w30 and would be my choice if I could find the Mobil1 as cheaply.

Here's a excerpt from a great article on-line.
30 weight oil:

Temperature ( F )....Thickness

302...........................3
212..........................10
104..........................100
32..........................250 (rough estimate)
