Clutch Advice please
I'm contemplating whether or not to have a new clutch get put in the same time i do my headers/midpipe. Do you guys suggest this? What are some clutches to look at. I saw a couple FRPP king cobras, what are other brands? thanks

...spec 4...good lord jd...might be tough to drive on the street
specs are pucks but anything over 3 has no slippage. i don't think they come with a marcel spring. like a light either on or off.
chattering should diminish with break in and shouldn't be a problem after
OUZBnd: what power level do you make/plan to make realistically?
a little info on what you have now and how long you've had it would be great
ram/kngcbra/centerforce are some

RE: Clutch Advice please
I have a SPEC Stage I in my car and the throw out bearing chirps like a bird from idle to 1500rpm and it burns at the slightest hint of stress; my car isn't even modded that far past suspension work; the stock clutch was better than that thing. I'm thinking of a king cobra for my next clutch.

RE: Clutch Advice please
throwout bearings with the Spec clutch are well known for being trash. Anything over a stage 2 Spec is tough to drive on the street, a stage 4 would make driving a chore and wouldnt be my choice for a street car. Definately replace the clutch if doing longtubes, its only gonna cost a couple hundred bucks at the most for labor compared to $500 or more after the longtubes are in. If your staying NA I'd say go with the King Cobra or a Spec stage 1 (don't use their throwout bearing though). Mcleod's are sweet clutches but way to expensive for my taste.

i don't feel mcleod is too costly IF you need a new flywheel. i paid 770 for a mcleod street twin and steelflywheel but a spec + f/w combo would have been high 500 low 600. i though it was worth the price difference given the ability to withstand power down the road. my crank pattern changed so i needed a new flywheel anyway
they are a bit backlogged but for reputible companies that a good sign they are doing something right
