OK, I installed my MGw today.. I love the short throw..
but the shifts aren't very "clean"; they're kinda rough, actually. did I install it wrong, or is it still stiff from the factory and needs to be worn in??
also, I got one of those mgw ***** with it, too, but the damn thing looks (and feels..) awful because I put the handle on a slant (towards driver's side a little bit, so that it's easier to go to 1st and 2nd gear); if the shifter were straight up or straight down the **** would align perfectly (I got a pony on it), the pony's crooked though now.. any way to fix it? like, screw it in more or something? there's still thread left on the shifter itself..

It will wear in over time. It's a tad stiff from the start. Did you remove the shift stops? You should they aren't need on late 01s to 04s.
I set my shifter up by putting it in 5th and sitting in my standard driving position then tightened it down. I got a UPR **** and it had a set screw on the side so you could lock the **** down when it was in the right position. I am not sure how the MGW ***** are.

I'm gettin ready to order my MGW too. Although I don't know from experience, I've heard that new aftermarket shifters do take some time (a month or so) to break in. Others will weigh in on this no doubt with more info - sorry I don't have more! [X(]

RE: mgw
a set screw huh? is that what the little protrusion is? looks like it has some sort of thread on it or something..
how do I work that? looks like I stick somethin' in there and then I can spin the top maybe?? (sorry I'm an idiot )

(I got the other ****, but my **** has that little thing sticking out which is seen on the left and right *****.. is that what you're talking about? and if so, how does it work!! thanks)
and thanks for the info on the break in thing; i think that's just what it is, that it's not worn in yet so it's a little stiff. I love the short throw though, it's so close.. the distance from 1st to 5th is equal to 1st to 3rd on the old shifter
edit: im not using shift stops, to answer your question

RE: mgw
it wont hurt to take out the shift stops. it is actually recommended in the instructions to take them out on the tremec 3650 ... the trany has internal shift stops.
I just got my shifter installed the other day. with the factory **** on the red handle it was kinda odd also, I had it twisted towards me. With the blue handle it is not as odd.

One: the ****: You need to use an allen wrentch to tighten the set screw, if you don't knwo what that is step away from the car and let someone qualified work on it[8D]
Two: Shift Stops: On 3650 Tremec trannys DO NOT need the stops. They have internal stops. If the shift stops are set incorrectly for the shifter the possibility of damage to the tranny can result. It is recommend by Tremec to remove or back completely off the shift stops, you will not over shift the car.
