convertible strip = weight loss?
Quick Q
if i bought a fiberglass hard top from Smoothline for my 98
and then stripped the hole convert stuff out would i lose weight?
like stuff being the motor the fold frame the wires and bolts and everything except what i would need to keep on the hard top.
and if it is lighter is it lighter then an averige hardtop 98? i just dont know what the ratio is for fiberglass to metal/normal hardtop+frame (hardtop NONconvertible)
thanks if anyone can help

some of this losing weight craze is little unwarranted. IMO you should be much more concerned with sprung weight vs. unsprung weight. Rather than make your car junky for a few measily pounds, your much better off just getting a power adder. Unless your bracket racing or something

+1^^^--& if you strip out all the, as you say "convert stuff", you will be left with an odd Mustang with a plastic aftermarket top that you won`t ever be able to sell for doodoo

the top doesnt weigh crap, IMO not worth taking out. your looking at 40lbs MAX and your gonna ruin the vert option.
craigslist your car... trade for a hard top, even swap.... sounds like you regret the vert

i'm probably gonna make my top a manual top, remove the pumps and hydraulic cylinders and make pins for the brackets to hold them in place. can probably get rid of at least 40 lbs. i hope, can probably find more to remove if need be.

Just get a cage and the arm restraints and take off the top completely!
