Default Unknown oil type

Hello all, I just bought a 1997 mustang GT with 140,000 miles about 3 months ago from a dealer who bought it at auction. I asked him if he had changed the oil, he said no and didn't know when it was last changed or with what type. So now I'm stuck, don't want to put synthetic in if its been run 140k miles with conventional or vice versa. Is there any oil analysis companies that could identify type and brand from a sample, or barring that, which would be the safest type to use? Last owner didn't seem to take care of his 'stang (no manual, tho I have a .pdf manual, recommends 5W-30) no records, no oil change sticker on the windshield, filler cap or filter, so I'm guessing its got some cheap conventional in right now. Any two cents appriciated!

I'd go with regular old dino oil man... Get yourself 6 quarts of conventional 5w30 and a Motorcraft FL820 filter and be on your merry way.
