So, are you supposed to go by the PSI rating on the tires, or the factory recommended pressure thats printed on the sticker in the door? I've been going by the tire itself, but yesterday, my father-in-law was saying not to go by the tires, but by the factory rating. What's the right way guys?

The rating on the tires is the maximum pressure the tire can hold safely before having to worry about it blowing from too much air.

Use the door sticker. Most passenger cars are usually 30-35 psi.

Run them 10 PSI under what the max pressure is rated on the tire itself when they are COLD.

Don't go by door jam, as the tires may not be or may not remain stock. The tires will pick up about 5~6 PSI when all warmed up and should be just fine.
