Exhaust Leak
i have an exhaust leak where the header and midpipe bolt up. These are stock headers. I was told to use silicone rtv around the mating surfaces to seal it up. Does this sound right? any ideas

I don't think any silicone is going to handle those temps.
Are you talking about the end of the pipe where it connects to the manifold, or the midpipe joint (I think stock has them, but cant remember).
The gasket for right there in the middle is only a couple of bucks, and minus some stubborn bolts is not that hard to do. If it is where the header meets the H/X pipe then you need to tighten those bolts up. There are no gaskets there and i am 99.9% positive any silicone would just vaporize the first time you start it.

yeah its where the header and hpipe meet. ive always had a leak there and can never get rid of. its starting to really **** me off. what is the name of the gasket the meets between the middle of the pipe and catback? might was well do that to. jw are those sleeves supposed to be on driver side header where the midpipe meets?

I had that same leak. I went to a little muffler shop and they made me go to Ford and buy a gasket. He said it was oval shaped, so that's why over the counter stuff wont fix it. I think I paid $8. They had it in stock.
I went back to the guy and he threw the part in and problem solved.
