Default URGENT: Broken wheel stud, need help

Hey guys, I broke a wheel stud. Is there any way to get the stud out without having to pull the axle? As it sits now the stud wont come out past the gear behind the wheel (I have it knocked loose). Thanks!

Front or rear wheel? The rears are easy to swap out but the front you might have to buy a whole new hub assembly ($40 ish at auto parts store)

I guess you didn't break off too much of it? I have replaced two studs on the rear. My lug got crossthreaded by some jackass with an airgun so the stud broke off inside the lug nut. I guess it broke off far enough towards the hub that it slid right out when I hammered it loose. Hmm.. let me think about it. I'll get back to you.

Yeah dude if you took the caliper and rotor off, you should be able to rotate the hub to a position so that the stud can slide out. Then I just put the new one in place, used a lug nut to snug it a little, then put the caliper and rotor back on, mounted the spare tire and tightened the GOOD lugs first then used the lug nut to pull the new stud on with the other lugs tight. Should be that simple.

Can you take a pic or something?

I mean, if you cant get the old stud off which is broken, you wont be able to get the new one on since it is longer, ya know? I think you just need to play with it until you have enough room to remove and replace it.

Sorry for the triple lol

IT IS POSSIBLE
although it will nick (removing the old stud)

to get the new stud on (they are a bit smaller so kinda "fit" in better), you got to put it as far in as possible, then get two nuts (just basically 2 lug nuts) and ur air hammer and pull the stud through with the air hammer and the nuts by tightening them to top of the stud (towards the axle)

i can put in and take out 3 inch studs on my rears. it is all about how it is rotated on mine at least. There is one spot where it can clear for sure and the studs i am using are way longer than stock ones.

is the old stud broken or just loose. if its loose just use an air gun to retighten it back into place. if broken, jack both back wheels up put the car in neutral and play with the rear spinning it until u can find a spot to pull the stud out.
