Default New to forums looking for some advice...

Hi guys i just signed up for the froums altho i've been reading them for some time now... anyways i've had my car for about a year now and its time to start geting some more power. its a Stock 1999 4.6 gt manual.my goal is to have about 320rwhp when done which will take me awhile so heres where i was going to start... i was looking at CAI's and there not as cheep as i thougth they were going to be and im not looking to spend alot at money at one time. just little by little when i get it.. so what do you pro's think about this one. http://www.americanmuscle.com/mugtv8pocoai.html .. it's cheap which is good but is it worth it or should i just stick to stock till i can get a bbk or k&n? and if it is worth it how much HP should i expect out of it? I was also planing on geting a 75mm tb after i got a CAI. then underpullys. and i guess gears. im just not sure on what to get for the gears yet.. 4:10? Then after gears i have no clue thats where i hope you guys can help.. thanks for reading and sorry for the dumb questions, this is the first car i've moded and dont really know where to start.. anymore tips or what you guys think i should add first -last would be great.

don't get a CAI it's worthless. ur stock intake is already a "cold air intake" that gets cold air from the fender.

and don't waste ur money on a bunch of little things that won't do anything for ur car. just save up and buy this:
http://modularpowerhouse.com/product...394c8a61522ed3
that will put u around 320 rwhp like u want

and for a manual i recommend 3.73 gears. other ppl will tell u 4.10s but i'm warning u now if u go that route your 1st gear will be useless

Welcome.

You can get a lot of great information from the forums. My first suggestion would be to read all the "stickies" at the top of the forum. There is a ton of good information on how-to's and what other people have done to their cars.

Now, they may correct me, but you are not going to get 320 HP with just bolt-ons. Your going to need to boost or juice your car to get that power. I just put a Vortech on my car.

Put the CAi, gears, and some good tires and you'll be happy for a little while.

I don't know what other types of mods you've done, but I would suggest lowering and sub-frame connectors (if you haven't already).

This is the most economical way to get horsepower. The kit comes with new CAI, fuel injectors, and fuel pump. Every thing you need except the installation. You do not have to do anything else to your car (except maybe a tune). With a manual transmission, it should get you closer to 350 rwhp.

Skip all that stuff and get gears first. This will be the best bang for your buck and if you find that right shop, or do it yourself, its really not that expensive compared to buying the CAI, Thottle body, etc.

Even if you do full bolt ons you won't hit 320rwhp, so your gonna have to spend some money. This hobby is not cheap, and if your not lookin to spend a lot of money then maybe this hobby is not for you.

when i was at MPH, tim said that, that kit usually makes around 360 on mostly stock cars, and closer to 400rwhp with full bolt ons and a powerpipe.

but excellent advice either way!

+1, on the 2vs anything other than FI is just not worth the money!

Thanks guys, lots of usefull info. I'm going to look into geting the Mongoose KIT. and the 3.73 gears.. i knew this all wouldent be cheap but i didnt think bolt on's were so much when they give so little. one last question tho.. with the stock motor how much hp can my car handel befor it gets to the point to where something could break easy.. i've been told stock rods ect were rated at 450hp.

Most of the tuners I've talked to say not to go over 370-380 rwhp if its a daily driver. I've read posts of motors coming apart at 420 and I've heard of motors running at 420 for a couple of years.
