Question O2 Sensor Confusion

I have a 2000 GT with 120,000 miles on it. Today going to work the Service Engine light came on. I stopped by Advance auto to have them hook up the diagnostic tool and it came up that the O2 sensor was bad. They looked in their computer and it listed an upstream part number and downstream part number that were identical. Then the guy handed me 4 O2 sensors with 2 different part numbers on them. I didn't take them and I decided to call Ford parts. Ford parts said there is 4 O2 sensors and the front and back are different. Also, they are over $100 dollars each. Advance auto is listing front and back as the same part number but they are just over $40 each. I am going with the Advance auto price but need to make sure I am getting the right ones. Does anyone know if the Bosch sensors use the same exact sensor for all 4 or is there 2 different part numbers for front and back? I would like to get these replaced as soon as possible. Any ideas as to what kind of issues I will have by having a bad O2 sensor other then fuel economy and pollution? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Advance Auto is correct, Ford carries them as 4 part numbers but there are only really 2 different sensors.

However--before you run out and buy 4 O2 sensors you need to get the exact DTC (code) that was being thrown. That will tell you which (if any--see below) of the O2 sensors is bad.

I say "if any", because of the 24 or more DTCs that mention the O2 sensors only about 1/2 mean a sensor is bad; the other 1/2 are some other problem that the sensor has detected.

If you buy all 4 sensors there is a very good chance you will have bought 3 more than you needed to, and a possibility that you bought 4 more than needed--get the exact trouble code and look it up here before buying anything...

Thanks. I will have it scanned again and get the code that goes with it.

It's a huge long shot, but if you happen to have any access to a tuner or IDS you could simply read the voltage from your O2's. Immediate answer to which are bad and which are not.

All 4 sensors are not likely to be bad go back up to advance and get the DTC and come back and tell us what it is and we can go from their but do not put all the O2 sensors in there it would be a waste of money
