Default What is the easiest way to pull the motor?

Well, I am not going to risk my motor on it knocking, so I am going to pull it out. What exactly is the best way to do it? Out the top, or bottom? I have the means to do either, but it sure doesn't look like that motor can come out the top. What is your take? It's a 96 GT BTW.

I pull motor and tranny together out the top, sure beats fighting the starter.

I've never pulled the engine out of the bottom but if you have a lift I hear that's the way to go. I've always done it out the top and that works too.

I did this about a month ago. way easier. undo the crossmember, driveshaft, motor mounts, wiring harness, radiator, and have fun. My wife's 96 GT had longtubes on it too. got the motor out with l/t's and actually got the new motor back in with the l/t's on it.

Good luck. i went back to 5.0's after dealing with that car lol

If you have a lift the easiest way is to put the k member on jack stands, un-bolt it, disconnect everything, and then lift the car right off of it. That way there's no hassle fighting with the hoist and swinging it in/out.

It's not hard out the top, but it's much easier out the bottom.

Out the top is the easiest and fastest way. Leave the tranny on it to make life easier.

Thanks guys. I will take it out the top. I don't have a lift, but I have a giant H frame with a hoist on it that I can pick the body up with. I did it with my 98 Cadillac when I had to pull the motor. Not exactly fun, I would rather take it out the top.

Yeah, out the top was easy enough. 6 hours to get the motor out. Would have been 5 if I had figured out that the inspection plate was what was holding the transmission to the engine. Does need two things that are going to be 1000% easier to fix now that the motor is out. Throwout bearing and the motor mounts are shot.
