well if you are going for performance/speed/traction with drag radials, tire size choices etc lol go with a 17x10 out back. I have 18s all around and i love them for looks, but believe me the tires cost more, and are harder to find, and they wont hook as well due to the shorter sidewall. Just my 2 cents.

^ Actually an 18" tire will be easier to find as it is a more popular size for high performance application. They WILL be more expensive, but also true the shorter sidewall is not so good for launching.

I am also not sold so much on the rotating mass argument that a 17" is better b/c of weight. The overall diameter is going to be the same, generally, so would depend if you had a light-weight tire. A DR is generally going to be lighter, so may be the way to go with 17"s

As soon as you go 18"s, you need to go down to a 30 series.

I like my rim tire set up. 17x9 with 255 up front and 17x10.5 with 315's in the back. The difference from stock was huge, and the ride quality is better even with a smaller side wall.

cant look this sexy with 17s!

EDIT: I need to go take some new pics. This was right after I lowered it some more. It has since settled so that the front wheels are almost tucked right inside the fender

And to OP, I don't think you will like an 18 out back and a 17 up front. It will look weird I think. Have you googled for any pictures of that setup?
