Pro 5.0 Shifter Questions
I've got an '02 GT 5spd with minor mods (MAC cold air, Steeda underpulleys, Flowmaster cat-backs, Pro 5.0 shifter)
Ever since the Pro 5.0 shifter was installed, I'm getting a lot more gearbox noise. I'm also getting a very annoying rattling sound when I shift to 5th in normal driving (50-60 m.p.h.). Are these normal noises? Does anyone else have similar problems with the shifter? In addition, the shifts seem very notchy. There are two distinct movements between gears - one out of gear and one into the next gear - both with very audible clicking noise (snic, snic). Again, is this normal? I was expecting a smoother shift with a single seamless motion between gears.
BTW, I'm 54 and this is my first Mustang. I'm havin' a ball!

It's normal for your shifter to act like that. I have the Tri-ax and it acts and soundsthe same way. I don't know if the the Pro 5.0 has the same thingbut the Tri-ax has 2 bolts that prevent you from over extending the shifter. If the one up top isn't in far enough it may bevibrating againstthe shifter while you're in 5th. I had this problem andmovingthe boltin a little more stopped it from doing that. I'm not sure how the Pro5.0 is designed so I don't know if this will help or not.

Congrats on your first mustang. I have the Roush Short throw and its made identical to the tri-ax shown above. I get the same noise from the gearbox as well as when shifting. Its doing just as it should. Once you have had it for a while, you will be glad you got it. Have fun, and be safe...

Pro 5.0 Shifter Questions
The reason you're getting gearbox noise is because the stock shifter had a rubber bushing to isolate the vibration and make everything hush hush. The problem with the bushing is that it is one of the causes of all the slop in the stock shifter. You're new shifter eliminates the bushing so that the slop is gone but at the same time gives that "gear whine". If I'm not mistaken, when I put my Tri Ax in, the instructions said that it was possible to install the rubber bushing onto the new shifter, but you also get some slop back. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info, guys. I'll try to get used to the noise and the quirks of this shifter. Still hoping to give it a try at the local track. After reading some other posts on launching and shift points, I hope to break 14 sec. Might be a stretch, but I can dream, can't I? Now I've just got to find a stretch of road where I can practice without bothering anyone or attracting the local police!
