Short shifter: Shortens shift throws on 5 or 6 speed transmissions (makes shifting tighter and faster). I would reccomend as a middle mod rather than doing it right off on account of the price. I just recently installed my new MGW shifter with the street/strip red handle and the change from the stock shifter to the MGW shifter was amazing. Installation was easy and anyone with a socket wrench can doit. Takes about 30-40 minutes. Again I recommend this mod after you have the basics done: exhaust, cai, gears.

Price: Around 200$ shipped. COmes with everything needed for install including excellent instructions and a free gasket.
Installation: This is a doit yourself all the way.
Effect: Faster shifting, lessens chance of missing gears, tighter and more accurate.

I just dropped in a Steeda Tri-Ax last week. Well worth the $. Shop around and check ebay. I got the Steeda new to my door for $130. Driveway job. Don't forget permatex (blue) and some medium locktite for the bolts.

Cold Air Intake (CAI) - One of the first things I did. Did it in the driveway in about 45 minutes. Again, got it on ebay. No name brand, but all the right parts. Cost: $52.90. If you have a '03 or '04 GT, the IAT sensor is integrated into the MAF. Most kits have a hole or bunf for the sensor. I sealed mine with a cork. No, really, I did. Works fine.

Underdrive Pulleys (UDP) - Stay away from the piggyback style (MAC). They shift in balance causes my MIL to come on if I hover between 2500 to 2800 rpm. Save the pennies and by the Steeda pulleys. They can be had for $200. You'll need a pulley kits to remove the stock balancer, and I recommend getting help from someone who has done it before. Should take 2 hours or less. (NOT for S/C engines!)

Throttle body/Plenum (TB/P) - Another mod for the driveway. Many brands available: BBK, TrickFlow, Accufab, Dragon, etc. Everything I've read say Accufab has the best flow rates, but it's also the most expensive. $400 - $450. 30 minutes with simple tools. CAUTION: Be careful with the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). That can cause serious idle problems.

Shorties: Short tube headers, look similar to your stock manifolds, weigh extremely less, flow much better than stock, will help reduce underhood temps and the 'mini' collector will help provide betetr scavenging, hence, more HP. Will bolt RIGHT up to a factory stock Mid-pipe or an aftermarket stock length X/H pipe replacement mid-pipe. Headers are under $300 and easily installed.

Mid lengths: Mid length headers, flow a little better than shorters, as they have increased tube length, improved collectors. The only manufacturer of mid-length's I'm aware of is Bassani and JBA. Cost anywhere from $400-$700.... Require a matching mid-pipe, adding $$. Estimated 4-5 hour installation.

Long tubes: Long tube headers, give you the most HP available from header replacements. They have long exhaust tubes, blended into an exhaust collector that has maximum scavenging capabilities, thus increasing TQ and HP. Requires a matching 'short' x-pipe. Cost anywhere from $350-$750 depending on which brand you purchase. Installation prices have been anywhere from $150-$800 dollars. Instructions say to expect atleast 8 hour job install.

Oh man here we go...

CAI- Delievers more and cooler air to the engine so that the engine can breathe more. Densecharger, K&N, and steeda are some of the better brands. Anyone can install it, it's really easy and shouldn't take even 40 min. I did mine in 20 min. They can range from about $120-$220.

MAF- Theres no need unless you have a supercharger, turbo, or some kind of forced induction. Theres too many brands to list and all of them should be good. It allows more air to enter your engine at a higher rate. I dunno prices for them.

Throttle body/ plenum- Allows more air to enter the engine at a higher rate of speed (are you seeing a trend here?) It also increases throttle response (how long it take for the engine to start accelerating when you step on the gas) And adds a few HP. Accufab is one of the better brands out there. They can run from $350-$450. 70mm is good enough for N/A (naturally aspired) applications But you will need to go 75mm for best performance when you have forced induction. Should add 5-7hp (may be more on a forced induction application.)

I have a CAI picked out, its a K&N Typhoon Short Ram Intake for my 02' GT 5 speed, there are no other performance upgrades done to the car yet and ive heard that a intake wont add power and i have heard that the MAF on mustangs is very sensitive . . . i want to make sure im getting my money worth

Hi guys....Just registered here...so forgive me for any duplicate questions.

I noticed at least one person (Blueangle) lives close to me hopefully some others will appear as well...

Anyway....

I have a 2003 metalic silver Premium edition convertable GT...

I have Flowmasters on it as well as BBK cold air intake but thats all. I still am not happy with my low end and am looking to do some stuff but don't know which is the next best course of action...I'm not sure if I should go with a bigger throttle body or x pipe or h pipe or headers or etc....lol

I can do some simple car things but not alone...lol

Money is somewhat of an object but I do ok so depending upon my desire I could spend what ever I wish.

Any thoughts would be appreciated and for the local guys...do u know of any mustang specialists that may be worth seeing?

I don't drive it much anymore so I can leave it as a project if need be while I drive my '04 Mercedes E500 (which beats my stang appreciatively)...
