Default T-Stat ????

First of all hello to everyone, I have a question about changing my thermostat in my stang to a lower temp like a 180* or something , would this do anything?

I've heard it makes a difference on 5.0L mustangs but I could be wrong .

I'm doing the install of a 180* stat today. Apparently it will allow you to run more timing on your Stang once it is installed. But don't go get a 160* cuz that will be too cold of a stat unless ur running a power adder.

Would a 160 be good with nitrous?

Running a 160° t-stat on a street car will require a number of changes to the tune, and experimentation/trade-offs, to make the PCM aware of what coolant temperature is to be considered "warmed up".

Unless you have a good, low level, tuning system and knowledge of what to tune I would not recommend it. A lot of s/c kits include a 160° thermostat as yet another way of tricking the engine to run a bit richer, this is a very kludgey way of doing it but it provides a little more coverage their backsides "warranty-wise".
