Exclamation timing chain tensioners (urgent!)

i wanna start off by saying, yes, i did search, but no luck, and i dont really have much time. 3 weeks ago, i found a had a bad timing chain tensioner, so i went to advanced auto and bought 2. i replaced them both. on friday i was on my way to work in the morning, and i knew what it was. after work, i ripped the valve covers off, cranked it over, and the new tensioner stripped out or something. the tensioner arm (yellow one) just flaps, and my chain flaps around about 2 to 3 inches back and forth. i need to know where i can get stronger tensioners, because i'm not going through this again. i'm thinking that having the bigger cams and valve springs is just too much for the factory tensioners. anybody?

Buy some from a ford dealer.. I found original equipment parts are usually a little better than a local part store. Im running bigger springs and cams and have no problem with mine. They are oem tensioners.

def go with Ford's OEM. There should be no problem with them at all.

ya, but ARE there any upgrades out there? what about the terminators? would they have stronger tensioners, and would they be applicable to the 2v's?

If they are the shyt plastic ones from Ford you aren't gaining anything. I would go to the wrecking yard and find the old style metal before that.

I have the same damned problem. My timing chain is flapping about in the cover and it's ANNOYING. I bought a tensioner from rock auto, but it still flaps around. Considering going to the ford dealer next time, that or going to a pick U pull and get one.

I tend to agree. Starting to wish that I got a 5.0. Got everything fixed except for that one damned tensioner. I have pulled the front cover twice now. Once with the motor out and once with it in. Not that bad, but it's getting annoying.
