Police Interceptor & PI motor
Hello forum.
Thanks for all the help with my misfiring problem on who replied.
You were all very helpful .
Being a long time chevy fan and now moved over to Ford or the darkside like some chevy fans would say.
What is the differents between the Police Interceptor Motor in the Police cars and taxis to the PI motor in 99-04 mustangs?
I believe the PI motor in 99-04 have more HP is this correct?
just want to know what better and what the differents are.
Thanks forum Im new to Fords , but im glad to finaly own one and im very happy with it.
And getting rid of that nightmare 06 Cobalt SS\SC , what a pile of junk

Welcome to the Non-Bankrupt side!
Yes, the Police Interceptor Crown Vic's had less horsepower than 99-04 GT engines, not by much though, like 10-15hp. As for the Taxi Crown Vic's I'd expect them to be even less.

# 1998–2000 Ford Crown Victoria/Mercury Grand Marquis, 215 hp (160 kW) and 270 lb·ft (366 N·m) with dual exhaust option
# 2001–2002 Ford Crown Victoria/Mercury Grand Marquis, 235 hp (175 kW) and 275 lb·ft (373 N·m) with dual exhaust option
# 2003–2004 Ford Crown Victoria/Mercury Grand Marquis, 239 hp (178 kW) and 282 lb·ft (382 N·m) with dual exhaust option
As you can see from the horsepower/torque numbers, they were inferior to the GT engines. The only reason Ford used them in the Crown Vic's is because they were easy to mass produce which meant a more affordable product for Police Interceptors; after all police departments are on a budget, and this setup offered the "best bang for your buck." If Ford put in the GT PI engines, with about 260hp / 315tq then the price of the police interceptor would go up slightly, and may scare away some potential customers.
