Default wanted more horsepower

I'm really interested in upgrading 97 mustang from my stock 3.8 to a 4.6 or maybe even a 5.0. What way is my best bet? Any advice will help

How Much cash do you have to spend?
Will you be doing all work your self? (HOW Mechanically inclined are you?)
How Much Horsepower do you want/How Fast do you want to be?

Answer these Questions and people can help..... U can Do anything from 5.0, Built 4.6. Twin Turbo Built 3.8. With these questions people will find stuff for your price range/Mechanical Abilities!!

looking for 300-350hp, I either get a 97 4.6 w/trans. or a 89 5.0 w/trans. guy wants $500 for either one. I'm look to stay around $2000 or less if possible. just starting out with min. mechanic skills

damn thats not much of a budget for that type of hp my friend...
5.0 may be yor best bet though. they are very responsive to mods, and may be cheaper to do H/C/I on than the 4.6. The 4.6 is a NPI so honestly, i wouldnt consider it. You need to save more dough methinks...

my advice is go with the 5.0, save a little more money and you could have a nice h/c 306 with some giggle juice or maybe a nice 331or 347 stroker. the 5.0 will have a much bigger, less expensive aftermarket than the npi 4.6 and both stock will make the same hp. plus the fox body is lighter than the sn95/new edges. but unless you get some really good deals on parts id say your gonna need more money
