Default Losing gear oil behind brake

Well the first stock part on my car finally went bad. I have an 04 GT with 60k miles, for clarification's sake.

I was under my car pulling the exhaust up a little higher and looked over to the passenger side rear brake and saw the back of the caliper covered in oil. I figured the smell of gear oil was from the breather (my exhaust was touching the breather and stopping it from being open, as well as hitting it)... There was a small spill around it.

So now I have the problem of fixing this before it becomes a bigger problem. I am supercharging my car in a couple of weeks so the timing of this is frustrating. I am thinking the axleshaft seal/bearing failed, but it doesnt cause any weird noise and it can't be leaking terribly fast.

If this is the issue though, fixing it won't be bad, I just need to know before I tear my oily brake off and clean it up. Suggestions anyone?

I had the same thing happen to me before.

Its the axle seal.

Fix it quick because it will get worse and oil will start pouring out that ****

Yeah, definately the axle tube seal. It looks like an involved job, but if your mechanically inclined it really is pretty simple. I just put new axles, differential, seals and bearings in mine and it wasn't too bad of a job.

I've had the diff apart and axles out previously to do the Cobra brake swap for the rear... that happened at like 20k miles and I didn't get a leak after that so I know I didn't damage the seals then... I haven't even done anything which would cause the seal to go lately, it happened in the last week, I finally washed the car the other day and the wheel was a mess, it wasn't like that last time I had the chance to wash it. Oh well, that's the way life is, I guess

Where'd you get the seal? And any guide on getting the existing one out? I'm assuming I'm going to need a slide hammer, and am capable of doing it, just haven't taken on something like this before.

I've got a haynes manual around somewhere but I really don't trust it.
