I hope this isn't serious
I have a brand new motor in my 2000 Mustang GT and the past two times that I have started my car and begun to drive it the first 500 feet, I hear a strange "zing" sound through the RPMs that only lasts about 2 seconds. It sounds like a quick buzzing, or like a metallic zing-like thing, idk. It happened in first gear, 1700 RPMs, then 2nd gear at around the same area. It was really loud, and noticeable, and I am not sure where it came from, I think it might have come from the left side of the car, and I'm sure that everyone outside could hear it because I had the window down, and heard it come from outside the car.
Anyone have ANY IDEA what this is because I have NEVER heard this before on ANY other car.

I have an update on this situation.
The only time that this buzzing happens is when I first start the car and begin to drive. I can go through 1st normally, but once I hit 2nd gear and engage into gear, the noise happens. The noise comes from the SHIFTER. UNDERNEATH the shifter itself, it sounds like a metallic buzzing and it comes on ONLY once and just as I release the very last of the clutch.

I have a very good update.
I started my car cold this morning and here are a few symptoms:
The instant I started the car, and the engine fired on, the metallic buzzing came on quickly and faintly (I think because of the vibration of turning on the car) it was slight, and the sound to be exact was this: Imagine a buzzing noise. Add a metallic-like effect to the sound. Then add an echoing effect and kind of hollow buzz.
I shifted through THREE gears, and the buzzing came from the same place, as the RPMs increased, then once it hit 2,000 RPMS, stopped, then began again under load of the next gear.
Also, the clutch does not seem to be involved in this issue.
PLEASE, Opinions?? Extremely strange. I know you guys have some logical guesses, you have more experience then I do!

He just told you what to check, it may be that cap/cover. I'd start there.

Okay, so I haven't taken apart the transmission to look yet, but I got under the car when the car was started after being cold and the noise is coming from the exhaust. I pulled out of my garage and went next to my dad's car so that I could hear some echoing noise effects from the car, and it was repeatedly in and out rattling at IDLE. no clutch, nothing, just sitting there in neutral, and my dad's car was on the right side of me, so the noise was coming from the right.
How can I fix this? Do any of you have any more guesses? Heatshield is a good guess.

Sounds like a heat shield to me, or at least a piece of tin. I would start the car when it is cold on some jack stands so you can be under there to here the noise. Then start putting presure on parts like the exhaust by pushing and pulling them. The exhaust will take a minute to heat up but leather gloves arent a bad idea.
You said the noise sounded like it was from the right echoing of the car but I bet if you spun it around it would echo on the left also.
