Default Gridning after you shift

So I floored it in my car the other day because I was in a hurry (never a good idea because my car can't handle it) and as I drove away, I went to go put my car into 3rd gear and did everything normally with the exact proper amount of gas and everything (actually, I wasn't even past 2200 RPMs going into the shift, and the gearshift grinded. When you grind it like this, what exactly is going on? Is this terrible for the car?

Was the clutch fully depressed when you shifted? If not, there is your problem. Otherwise it's a snycro going out.

yeah I would have probably guessed that it was an accident and you might not have had the clutch in quite far enough too.... have you had this incident happen again or regularily?

There are pairs of gears in your transmission. When you grind gears the teeth of the gears are beating against each other. Yes it is hard on the transmission, very hard. It leads to worn gears with chipped teeth and eventual complete failure of that pair of gears. But its not fatal if it happens only once in a while. It can be caused by operator error (not shifting with the clutch all the way to the floor) or mechanical failure (bad sychronizers).

Just curious, have you been powershifting?

Hmm, I do not think that it was in error, although it could have been. I didn't shift at 2200. It grinded after I was already in gear. Weird..

Yes, I have powershifted maybe 3 times the entire time I have had the car. I barely ever beat on my car, but when I do, sh*t like this happens.

It may not have been all the way in gear when you let the clutch out. I had difficulties with that on mine, it would feel like it was in, but it wouldn't quite make it, then it would grind. I honestly wouldn't be concerned with it unless it continues.
