fun facts about 4.10s

RE: fun facts about 4.10s
You should do low 14's stock if you're a good driver on a good track. If you add 4.10's and some good tires such as Nitto 555R or BFG drag radials then you should pull a mid 13 second pass. There are way to many variables to say what you will run exactly. Variables such as DA, track prep, driver ability, etc.

I would hazard to guess over about 110 to 120 your speedometer accuracy probably goes to hell. As far as 150 to 180 in a GT, I don't really think so. The major car journals have observed top end around 140+. I think 150 is a magic number in this country where your car would then become "governed" to keep you from going much higher. The car manufacturer's have pulled this for years. Besides, no Mustang on the planet (stock) is designed to go a "sustained" speed of 140 to 150+. After about 110 mph, all the physics of your suspension and aerodynamics are pretty much severely compromised. If you even so much as hic up, sneeze or fart at that rate of speed and your attention gets deviated for even a moment, you can be dead. Perhaps '03 and '04 Cobra's may go a bit faster and be able to better handle the speeds, but even they are still compromised at such speed. And, if you do not have almost new rubber on your car in all but perfect shape, you are asking for a potential blow out. No fun at warp speed. I am sure a high percentage of Mustangs on the road have much less than perfect rear rubber. Ever hit a curb, run over road rash or just plain bounced your tires off of something? That can translate to BOOM at this high speed. You see it in NASCAR everyday.....and you ain't NASCAR. 6,000 rpm's at that speed can also get you dead. If your engine comes apart and you lose oil, you lose the car. If you lose the car....forget it.
Bottom line....enjoy your Mustang but please be very, very careful at intensely high speeds. We don't need anymore statistics. You know, your girlfriend had a right to be scared.

RE: fun facts about 4.10s
wow... im not sure where to start here... lets just get to the facts!
A 99+ GT will do 130 stock very easily.
I had my GT at 155 and there was no rev limiter and yes... the speedo was corrected for the gears and rechecked with a GPS on level ground at a steady speed.
Areodynamics dont really play a factor in the GT intil you hit about 160+. Ford has put out that the 99+ GT body style is stable on the road up to 160 mph. Anything after 160 will need the 2000 Cobra R body kit to keep it on the ground.
Z rated tires are rated for speeds in excess of 149 mph... a blow out is possible on really worn tires.
Ive had my Cobra at 170 mph and it was very steady and had MUCH more pull. I could have taken it to the 200 mph mark if I had wanted to. If you go to the video section right now you can see a video of a pullied Eaton Cobra doing almost 170. ;-)

Wow, some people are so sensitive. I think that the point trying to be made was that doing 150+mph on public roads isn't the safest thing in the world. The car may not blow apart, but there are many things that could happen that would be an instant disaster. Personally, if someone wants to do 200 mph, God bless them. As long as me or my loved ones aren't on the same roads, I couldn't care less. Might make for some good reality TV.

RE: fun facts about 4.10s
Ya, ya, ya...been there, done that. All I am basically saying is be extra careful at those speeds. I once had a '56 T-Bird with Polyglas tires and dummy wide white walls up to 140 mph.......talk about real dumb? The dummies all pealed back and snapped off at the same time and I thought I had a major blowout and was dead. Just a bad joke afterall. The real dummy was probably me. That car was DEFINITELY not meant for those speeds. I enjoyed it though. I suppose the car manufacturers do alot of lying when it comes to the real specs and limitations of these cars. You have to own one tricked out to really appreciate their capabilities. As far as tires, I know many people who have had a Z+ rated tire come apart at only 75 mph. You just don't want to be the small percentage of unlucky ones that have that happen at 150.
Now we all know why the insurance boogie men love to sock it to Mustang GT & Cobra owners......speed = risk. Speaking of speed, I read about the first test drive of the 2007 Shelby 500. A 5.4L engine with 475 HP and 450 lb torque. They estimate 0-60 at 4.0 seconds. That is starting to get serious. Everyone have a good holiday weekend and.....do me a favor.....blow off some rice bad over the holiday or a GTO or two. Take care.
