Default Gears - need to replace the 3.90's

The guy that installed my gears did a horrible job. I had the car back there twice and they still whine like there's no tomorrow. When I just barely get on the gas, like to maintain a certain speed on the highway, they don't whine - they yell. It's awfull. I know Motives are suppossed to be good gears, etc., but let's say I am a bit jaded by the whole experience. I want to yank them out and put Ford gears in. Here are my questions:

1. 3.73's or 4.10's? I have a Vortech S trim and the 3.90's work well in the set up. Ford doesn't make 3.90's. Do I go up to 4.10's or down to 3.73's? Within a year, I plan on getting a short block and upping the boost to achieve 450+ rwhp.
2. Do I need to get another master bearing kit? I did my 3.90's about 2 months ago and put maybe 2500 miles on them.

Any other advice would be great. And please, no "don't fear the gear - get 4.30's!" posts. There is a world of difference between N/A and FI, so try to keep that in perspective. Thanks!

go with 3.73's, If you are FI you really want to get any lower that 3.73's

if you get 410 you might top out in 4th at the track and it will be harder to keep in down.....everywhere so my vote is 373

It's going to suck going from 3.90's to 3.73's, but that looks like what I am going to do. I wish Ford made 3.90's. That is a great gear ratio for a centrifugal s/c'd car that's in the 400 hp range. Oh well.

if the gears are whining like crazy, that means the A-hole who put your gears in did not fill up your lsd casing with gear fluid.. this happened to me on my other stang..go to a jiffy lube or something and put fluid in there...it's not the gear keep the 3.90's or go down to 3.73's but if you do get them installed by someone who knows what they're doing... this being told from someone who's been there.

gear whine does NOT happen because of the gears them selves (99% of the time)

its on the install.....the guy doing it musta done a bad job.....

i say make him do it again!

Anyone know how many quarts of gear oil it takes to fill up the housing? I have the Ford rear end girdle, so I know it's more than stock.

Don't you think a mechanic with years of experience working on cars would know to put gear fluid back in? Also, it's not hard to shim gears right, I did my gears myself and I only have a slight gear whine in 5th gear. You can keep the 3.90s, just take your car somewhere else. All you have to do is measure the stock pinion head depth with a caliper, record that number, then measure the pinion head depth on the new one. Subtract the difference and then you know how much to shim the new one when installing. It's really not that hard. Take the car somewhere else.

get 4.10s. i'm really tempted to get some 4.10s for my baby blower to play with, but i can't justify spending another $500 on gears again.
